Top 10 Horror Movie Deaths

Drew Barrymore - Scream

Yesterday I read an article about the most memorable deaths in Quentin Tarantino movies online. I really liked it and it inspired me to do this list of horror movie iconic deaths in perfect timing for Halloween. I chose the scenes that are most memorable from some of the most iconic horror movies of all time as well as some deaths that really shocked me from some less known or underrated movies.

I decided to choose only one death per movie or franchise, otherwise Final Destination would take all spots on the list, haha. Some of these horror movies were really bad, but I think that’s a positive thing for me, I really like bad horror movies, they’re very very entertaining.

So, I’ll just shut up and start with the list now!! Btw, SPOILER ALERT!!! Read the movie title first in case you haven’t seen it!!

10. Frozen Face – Jason X (2001)

This was probably the worst installment of the Friday The 13th saga, but this death was just epic!! I saw all the movies in one weekend and I have to say they’re all really really bad, but I loved them! They have some great death scenes, especially when a young Kevin Bacon gets an arrow through his throat, but this one was the most shocking, epic and most memorable one of the saga!

9. Opening – Ghost Ship (2002)

This is probably one of the worst horror movies ever made, but you have to admit that this opening is amazing!! If only the whole movie was that great… I didn’t find it scary at all and it was very boring to watch. Who knew this young little girl would become the great Emily Browning?

8. Tanning Beds Of Hell – Final Destination 3 (2006)

This one was very difficult!! As I already said the Final Destination franchise has some of the greatest deaths in movie history. From the first movie to the last we have lots of great and very creative deaths, but this was has always felt the most horrible to me. I think burning up with no possible escape has to be the worst thing that could ever happen to you. Even worse than the roller coaster vision at the beginning of the movie!

7. Paris Hilton – House Of Wax (2005)

Many people think this is a terrible horror movie, but I have to say I really like it!! I find it very entertaining and the actors are quite good. Elisha Cuthbert and Chad Michael Murray were at the peak of their careers and say what you want but Paris Hilton did a pretty good job! I liked that, though she was playing the dumb hot blond that always dies the first, she was the last one killed and her death was amazing!! Haters are gonna hate, but I really like this movie!!

6. Brain Blender – You’re Next (2013)

This is, in my opinion, one of the best horror movies from the past years. I really hated it at the beginning, I thought the acting was terrible and the movie was really boring, but once you get to the action, it turns out to be an amazing movie!! I loved to see this poor girl pushed to the limit and doing whatever it takes to survive, even doing a brain milkshake! I love horror movies that have tough females in leading roles like this one and Hostel 2. I really recommend this movie and though you’ll be tempted to stop watching, be strong and watch it until the end!

5. Bloody Bed – A Nightmare On Elm Street (1984)

This franchise is just like the Jason movies, they’re all so bad that they’re good! All the movies have many great death scenes, but I think we can all agree that this one is the most memorable one and the one that gets stuck in everyone’s mind. I was scared of Freddy Kruger more than to any other killer or monster from any movie as a kid and I being killed in my sleep is still one of my worst frights today!!

4. Birth Of The Xenomorph – Alien (1979)

Alien is like really really one of the best horror films ever made. I personally liked more the second one because it’s more like a Sci Fi/Action movie, but the first one is one of the best psychological scary films ever. I read that the actors weren’t told that the Alien was going to come out of his chest and that’s why they all look scared as shit!! Clever right? I really like this movie and this scene is just beyond epic!!

3. Shower – Psycho (1960)

When you think of epic movie deaths this is the one that always come up to your mind in the first place. I have to say that as shocking as it sounds I haven’t seen this movie, I KNOW!! I did watch the 90s remake and I didn’t really like it. I know they can’t be compared and I’ll probably watch the original one day, but one thing is clear, this scene has made history for a reason and I just think it’s brilliant!

2. Garage Door – Scream (1996)

Ok, Scream is my favorite horror movie saga ever! I loved all of the movies, even the last one was amazing!! It’s the ultimate slasher film and what makes it so great is that it’s kind of a parody of slasher films made for fun and not to be taken seriously. I know Drew Barrymore‘s opening scene is amazing, but Rose McGowan‘s death by the garage doggy door is jus EPIC!! I love watching this saga over and over and from all the good deaths through all four films, this one is always the most original and creative and it’s always the one that shocks me the most.

1. Night Swim – Jaws (1975)

I love shark movies. Like most horror movies, they’re very very bad, but Jaws, the movie that started it all, is quite good, in fact it’s one of my favorite movies of all time!! I feel kind of guilty because I love sharks, they’re my favorite animal, and this movie gave a really bad image of sharks and made the world go crazy and scared of them, but I really enjoy this kind of movies. It’s probably because of the tension you feel while watching them, especially the Jaws movies with that amazing score. Whenever that music sounds I put my feet on the bed, sofa or wherever I’m sitting or laying!!

Anyways, this death is one of the most memorable from all the movies, though I would only count the first and second one as part of the saga, the other ones are just so bad. Fun fact is that the actress was really screaming because the harness that was dragging her into the water broke her hip. That’s why she’s screaming it hurts all the time!

I know I chose many “typical” death scenes, but they’re all very impressive and had a great impact in Pop Culture and the history of cinema!!
